The Wig Bank of Caldwell County provides wigs for women and children who may lose their hair through cancer treatments. Each wig is specially selected and styled by one of our licensed stylists.
Locks of Love
An individual may donate their hair (must be at least 12 inches) to a national company that makes wigs for cancer patients. The locks should be clean, bound together, braided, bagged and delivered to The Wig Bank with your name and phone number taped to the outside of the bag.
McCreary Cancer Center
The Wig Bank of Caldwell County is proud to partner with the McCreary Cancer Center to offer a wide range of programs for individuals and their families who are touched by cancer.
I Can Cope
This is a monthly support group initiated by the American Cancer Society for people who have just been diagnosed or are in treatment for cancer. Each month, an oncology nurse facilitates the session. Other experts are frequently invited to answer questions.
Arm in Arm
This breast cancer support group meets the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. Over the years, this has been the most popular support group.
Look Good... Feel Better
Studies show that people with a positive attitude do much better when battling cancer. This program brings women together and helps them put their best foot forward with tips on applying makeup (a free bag of makeup is supplied), techniques for using scarves and hats, exercise tips, and much more. This class meets after Arm in Arm.
Exercise is another key to healing. Mid-day Restorative Yoga classes are very popular at The Wig Bank.
CHiPS (Child Health Enrichment Programs)
This support group is for children affected by cancer and provides a place where they play games and participate in art therapy with high school Beta Club students. During these sessions, parents meet upstairs with volunteers. The group meets monthly, except during the summer.
A minority outreach program that is designed to explain the benefits of good breast health and mammograms.
